It took the officials at the USATF nationals over a week to get it
right but after viewing the finish tape of the boys midget race at
the JO's the Southern California Roadrunners of San Diego were named
the National Champions for that age group (11-12 year olds). Initially
the Valley Striders were named the winners and the Roadrunners were
3rd. However because of a mix-up in the chute a protest was filed
and the race had to be scored via video tape.
The photo below shows the winning team at the University of Nebraska
Indoor Field House after receiving their 3rd place medals. First place
medals are being mailed.
From the left the runners are:
Travis Kuhlman, Ernesto Mateo, Matthew VanDyke, Ben Enowitz, Erick
Toledo, Jovane Camacho
All are from the North County area except for Enowitz (Coronado),
Toledo (Chula Vista) and Camacho (Imperial Valley).
Kuhman (6th 0verall),
Mateo (7th Overall) and Van Dyke (22 Overall) are also Individual
All-Americans (top 25 in their race).
